J. Geoffrey Slingsby, M.D.

Dr. Slingsby is a retinal specialist and an ophthalmologist with subspecialty expertise in retinal, macular and vitreous disorders. He earned his medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He completed his postgraduate residency in ophthalmology at the University of Colorado, followed by retinal/vitreous fellowship at the University of Southern California. He is certified with the American Board of Ophthalmology.

As native South Dakotans, he and his wife, Jackie, appreciate the quality of life the Black Hills offers. They have two sons–Jason and Taylor. Dr. Slingsby actively enjoys flying and family activities.

Paul L. Wright, M.D.

Dr. Wright is a corneal specialist and one of the first 75 surgeons in the world authorized to do IntraLASIK all laser LASIK procedures. He received his medical degree from Northwestern University of Chicago and completed his post graduate residency in ophthalmology at the University of Oklahoma and the Dean McGee Eye Institute in Oklahoma City. Dr. Wright is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

In 1993, Dr. Wright was honored for his contributions to the field of eye care by being inducted into the South Dakota hall of Fame.

Dr. Wright grew up near Vale, South Dakota and currently resides in Hermosa, South Dakota with his wife, Lana. They have raised three children; Maria, Laurel and Lee.

Dr. Wright is an avid outdoorsman, who enjoys fishing, hunting and gardening.

Cris Mathews, P.A.-C.

Cris A Mathews has over 25 years of experience in the field of Ophthalmology working in Rapid City, South Dakota.

She received her nursing degree from the Rapid City (South Dakota) School of Nursing and furthered her education by completing the Physician Assistant Program at the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks. Cris is licensed with the South Dakota Board of Nursing, South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners and the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.

Cris and her husband, Steve (Schelske), reside in Rapid City. She enjoys gardening and china painting.

Dawn Wattenhofer, O.D.

Dr. Wattenhofer is an optometrist and has been in practice for 12 years.  She grew up in Gillette, WY and attended undergraduate school at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD.  Optometry school took her to Forest Grove, OR for four years.  Her fourth-year externships were spent in OR and here in the Rapid City area.


She and her husband, Corey, were happy to return to the beautiful Black Hills area, closer to family with plenty of outdoor activities.  They have four children who keep them busy with school and other fun activities.  They enjoy hiking, trail riding, skiing, tennis and softball/baseball.

Terry Wolthuis, O.D.

Dr. Wolthuis specializes in Ophthalmic and Refractive clinic care. His previous experience includes a private optometric practice in Rapid City and an outreach clinic at the Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Hospital in Sturgis, South Dakota.

Dr. Wolthuis graduated from the University of South Dakota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He furthered his education with a Bachelor of Science degree in Visual Science and a Doctor of Optometry degree, both from the Illinois College of Optometry.

Dr. Wolthuis and his wife, Kelly, enjoy family time with their two young children, Grant and Abby. He also finds time for golfing, hunting and fly-fishing.
